Summer in Pekin is shaping up to be one to remember! The city is rolling out a lineup of exciting events guaranteed to bring music, magic, and memories to residents and visitors alike. From live music under the stars to breathtaking balloon launches, Discover Pekin invites you to mark your calendars and join in the fun.

Downtown Concert Series Returns
Back by popular demand, the Downtown Concert Series will fill the summer air with music and community energy. Hosted in historic Downtown Pekin, this free, family-friendly series features local and regional bands playing everything from rock and country to blues and pop.

Concerts will take place on May 31st with the Backstreet Band and August 23rd with Revel in Red. These events offer a great opportunity to grab a bite at a local restaurant, shop at downtown businesses, and dance the night away with friends and neighbors. Vendors including foods and crafts will also be present.

“Music has a way of bringing people together, and that’s exactly what we’re celebrating,” said Melanie Matthews, Events Coordinator with Discover Pekin. “The Downtown Concert Series is more than just a show—it’s a gathering place for the whole community.”

Introducing the Dragon’s Fire Hot Air Balloon Fest
New for 2025, Pekin is launching its most visually stunning event yet: the Dragon’s Fire Hot Air Balloon Fest! Set for June 27th and 28th,  this spectacular event will light up the skies with colorful balloons, fiery night glows, and tethered rides for the adventurous at heart.

The festival will feature live entertainment with Capt. Quirk performing on Friday evening and Matt Miller Bank on Saturday evening. Food trucks, a kids’ zone, and special viewing areas for balloon launches at sunrise and sunset. Whether you're snapping photos, enjoying a picnic, or just watching the magic unfold, the Dragon’s Fire Balloon Fest is sure to be a summer highlight.

“This event will take Pekin to new heights—literally,” said Amy McCoy, Executive Director of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce. “We’re thrilled to bring something fresh and exciting to the community.”
