At Mucciante Heating & Cooling, we want to keep you informed about changes in the air conditioning industry without causing any undue concern. You may have heard about a shift in refrigerants for new air conditioning and heat pump systems, and we want to assure you that this doesn’t mean your existing system is suddenly obsolete or will be difficult to maintain.
Starting this year, 2025, it is important to be aware that new regulations are taking effect. Newly manufactured air conditioners and heat pumps will be transitioning to a more environmentally friendly refrigerant. This new refrigerant requires a few additional components and has a slight change in the installation process.
For homeowners in Pekin with existing air conditioning systems using the current refrigerant R-410A, there is no immediate need for alarm. R-410A will still be available for servicing and repairs of your current units for many years to come. Think of it like older car models – mechanics can still get parts and fluids for them even after the manufacturer updates to a new design.
The main impact of this change will be on the selection of new air conditioning and heat pump systems. If you are considering replacing an older unit in the future (likely several years down the road), you will find that the new systems will utilize these next-generation refrigerants, such as R-454B or R-32. These are designed to be better for the environment, and while they may involve slightly different technology in the new units, our team at Mucciante Heating & Cooling will be fully trained and equipped to handle them.
Our priority at Mucciante Heating & Cooling is to continue providing reliable and trustworthy service for all our Pekin customers, regardless of the age or type of their air conditioning system. If you have any questions or concerns about your current AC unit or future replacements, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (309) 267-6699. We’re here to ensure your home comfort remains our top priority.
