Dr. Dave presented his popular Whiz Bang Science Show at the Pekin Public Library last summer.
As summer approaches, the Pekin Public Library is gearing up to offer a range of engaging activities and programs suitable for all ages. Whether you’re a bookworm, a craft enthusiast, or someone looking to learn something new, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the library this summer!
One of the highlights of the summer is the annual Summer Reading Adventure, which encourages readers of all ages to keep reading during the summer. Participants can pick up their game card and track their reading progress, earn prizes, and enjoy special events throughout the season. This program is not only a fantastic way for children to maintain their reading skills over the break, but it also fosters a love for literature in readers of all ages.
Families can enjoy lots of free activities this summer at the library. On June 5, Barnyard Discoveries will bring their mobile farm to the library, with additional farm-related activities in the Storytime Room. For the kids who love gaming, we’re having MineCRAFTS, a Mario Party, and Screen Free Video Games. Our annual favorite, Whiz Bang Science Show, returns at the end of June, with a fun surprise at the end!
For younger children, the library will offer a variety of storytimes each week. Sign and Sing Storytime, presented by Communication Junction, will take place on Mondays, June 9 and 23, at 10:30am. Listen and Wiggle Storytime meets every Wednesday at 10am, and Baby Bounce meets on Thursday mornings at the same time. Any books read during storytime can be used for the child’s summer reading game card! Through engaging tales and activities, little ones will enjoy the joys of storytelling while developing their listening and comprehension skills.
Teens and adults are not left out this summer! Teens can enjoy video game nights, tie-dye shirts, and learn how to play games such as Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. We’re also hosting a free Women’s Self Defense Class, a Tazewell County History program, and crafts. Adults can play ‘Bookopoly’ this summer from May 31-July 31 and earn tickets for prize drawings, including a Kindle!
As summer approaches, don’t forget to mark your calendars! Come experience all that the Pekin Public Library has to offer this summer, and make unforgettable memories filled with books, creativity, and community.
