Mark your calendar and join the YWCA Pekin’s Coalition for Equality as it celebrates its annual “Until Justice Just Is” event to be held on Friday, April 24 at the Mineral Springs Park Pavilion from 6pm to 7pm. The Coalition is excited to welcome its featured speaker Chris Kaergard, Communications Manager at the Dirksen Congressional Center. Chris will address this year’s theme of “Democracy in Progress: Voting Rights 250” by discussing the history of America’s voting rights struggles—from the 15th and 19th amendments to the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Participants will be treated to an informative retrospective of these struggles and successes—most of which involved the effective use of peaceful protest. Interactive activities, such as marching around the lagoon, will accompany the presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
