Former Pekin Resident Publishes Debut Fantasy Novel Inspired by Jewish Folklore
Michelle M. Reichert, a former Pekin resident, recently celebrated the publication of her debut novel, The Adventures of Gefilda Fische: A Jewish Tale of Supernatural Mischief and Spiritual Battles.
While Reichert’s professional career has centered on healthcare and veterinary medicine, writing fiction became an unexpected part of her life following her own cancer journey. Facing serious illness led her to reflect on faith, resilience, and the stories that help people navigate difficult times.
Those experiences eventually inspired the creation of Gefilda Fische, an unconventional heroine who appears to be an ordinary teacher but secretly protects her community from spirits and demons drawn from Jewish folklore and tradition.
Published by Pegasus Publishers, the novel blends fantasy, humor, faith, and adventure while introducing readers to elements of Jewish culture and mythology that are rarely explored in mainstream fantasy fiction.
Reichert credits family, friends, and the communities that have supported her throughout her life for helping make the book possible. What began as a personal creative project gradually grew into a completed novel and the first installment of a planned series.
The book is currently available through major retailers including Barnes & Noble, Amazon Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, Waterstones, Powell’s Books, and independent bookstores.
For Reichert, publication represents the fulfillment of a long-held goal and proof that creative dreams can be pursued at any stage of life.
