Adventure starts at your library, and summertime offers the perfect opportunity to go on an adventure! From the bustling city of Chicago to the serene countryside, Illinois is a state filled with a wide array of attractions and activities to explore. There are also many hidden gems waiting to be discovered beyond the well-trodden tourist paths. Enter “Explore More Illinois,” a program designed to encourage residents to explore the lesser-known destinations throughout the state by getting free and discounted passes with their library card!

Launched by the Illinois State Library, “Explore More Illinois” offers library cardholders in Illinois the opportunity to access free or discounted passes to a variety of cultural and recreational attractions, including museums, historical sites, and state parks. You can find discounts to popular destinations such as the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Chicago Botanic Garden, and Lincoln Park Zoo; but also explore lesser-known attractions like the Kidzeum in Springfield, Dinosaur Discovery Museum in Kenosha, or the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford.

This innovative program aims to promote a deeper appreciation for the state's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, while also supporting local businesses and organizations. By providing access to these experiences, “Explore More Illinois” seeks to inspire individuals to venture beyond their familiar surroundings and engage with the diverse offerings available throughout the state. Whether it's a visit to a historic landmark, a day of outdoor adventure, or an immersive cultural experience, the program encourages participants to broaden their horizons and gain a greater understanding of the unique treasures that Illinois has to offer.

Moreover, “Explore More Illinois” serves as a valuable resource for promoting tourism and economic development in local communities. By highlighting lesser-known attractions and encouraging visitation, the program contributes to the vitality of these destinations and fosters a sense of pride and appreciation among residents.

So how do you access the discounts to these attractions?  First, you need a valid library card!  Visit your local library and get a library card. Most addresses in Pekin and South Pekin, as well as all kids in the Pekin area, can get a free library card. You will also need a Personal Identification Number (PIN), that you will receive when you get a library card. Go to the website https://exploremore.quipugroup.net/?Pekin and log in with your library card number and PIN to view the list of attractions and discounts. There is also a link on the Pekin Public Library’s website under “library cards.”

New attractions are added to the list quite frequently, so check the website often!  As the program continues to expand its offerings and reach, it has the potential to significantly impact how individuals discover and engage with the hidden gems of Illinois. By facilitating access to these enriching experiences, “Explore More Illinois” is not only promoting exploration and discovery, but also fostering a deeper connection between people and the diverse tapestry of attractions that make Illinois a truly remarkable state to explore.
