Every September, libraries around the United States celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month, a nationwide initiative designed to encourage people of all ages to sign up for a library card and take advantage of the endless resources available at their local libraries. This month-long campaign is a reminder of the importance of libraries as gateways to lifelong learning and community engagement.

Every September, library cardholders from Pekin, Peoria, Peoria Heights, and Fondulac can ride the CityLink bus for free when they show their library card! Fine Free + Fare Free offers an excellent opportunity for residents to ride CityLink to access the public libraries located within our service area. Route #18 Pekin South is the bus service to the Pekin Library. A complete bus route schedule and route information is available at ridecitylink.org

In addition to promoting National Library Card Sign-Up Month, Pekin Public Library will also offer fine-free library returns for all Pekin Library cardholders. Any overdue materials can be returned with no late fees; however, cardholders will still be responsible for damaged or missing materials.

As always, all Pekin area children, ages birth-18, can get a free, fine-free library card with a parent who pays District 303 taxes. Apply for a library card at pekinpubliclibrary.org/get-a-card, and when you come to the library to pick up your card, grab a calendar for an overview of all the fun, free activities we offer — including the new After School Club, Early Release Friday activities, and our Sponge-tacular Celebration: Under the Sea Adventure on September 25-26, 2025.
