A Summer of Adventures for the YWCA Pekin Early Learning Center Preschool Class
Thanks to a generous donor, our Preschool class enjoyed several field trips this summer. The first trip took place on June 5th, at Hooked on Fishing in East Peoria. We were fortunate to have many family members and volunteers join us for the day. Special thanks to all our volunteers. The presence of so many volunteers allowed for increased one-on-one assistance, making it a truly memorable experience. The venue's volunteers were exceptional in ensuring that every child had multiple bait options and successfully caught fish.
Our next field trip was originally scheduled for June 13th, at Robert Morrissey Park, but unfortunately, we had to cancel due to rain. The following trip was to Wildlife Prairie Park in Peoria on June 27th. We were blessed by our families who were able to join us on this trip. The class enjoyed a train ride and observed a variety of animals, with “Rickey” the raccoon being the standout favorite. To conclude the day, we relished popsicles and explored the park’s playground.
On July 3rd, we visited Forrest Nature Park in Peoria. One of our parents was able to accompany us, sharing her expertise and passion for nature. During our hike along the prairie path, we appreciated the scenery, including bridges and valleys, and observed various spiders and webs. After our hike, we cooled down at the visitor center before enjoying a picnic lunch and engaging in stick-building activities led by this parent.
We were also able to enjoy the Peoria Riverfront Museum and all the wonderful exhibits and experiences it has to offer our community. This was a great experience for the children to roam and explore.
Our preschool classroom is beyond thankful for this opportunity to have these experiences and memories.
