Why Children’s Mental Health Matters

Jan 28, 2026 01:24PM ● By Danielle Smith PMHNP-BC-FPA Ensight Mental Health & Wellness, PLLC

February is recognized as Children’s Mental Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the emotional, behavioral, and psychological well-being of the youngest members of our community. Just as physical health is an essential part of a child’s development, mental health plays a crucial role in how children learn, build relationships, manage emotions, and cope with everyday stressors.

Children face a wide range of stressors, including academic pressure, social media influences, and family changes. Anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, and other mental health conditions are increasingly common among children and adolescents. Unfortunately, these struggles are often overlooked or minimized, which can allow symptoms to worsen over time.

Children who receive appropriate mental health support are more likely to develop healthy coping skills, proper emotional regulation, and resilience that can benefit them throughout their lives. Seeking mental health care for your child is not a sign of failure; it is a proactive step that shows advocacy and commitment to your child’s overall health.

Access to mental health services for children can be limited. There are few providers who specialize in or are willing to see children. At Ensight Mental Health & Wellness, we recognize this gap and are proud to be one of the few practices in the area that provides mental health services for children. Our goal is to ensure families do not have to travel far or be on long waitlists to receive the care their children need. We work closely with parents and caregivers to create individualized treatment plans in a safe, supportive environment.

This February, we encourage families to prioritize children’s mental health. Ensight Mental Health & Wellness is currently accepting new child clients and remains committed to supporting the emotional health of children, families, and our community.
