Pekin Community High School (PCHS) organizes numerous fundraisers for the community. The school does this year-round for various reasons; for example, PCHS raises money for things like sports, extracurricular activities, and more. PCHS also raises money for EasterSeals, a nonprofit organization.

PCHS Assistant Principal Daniel Hiles discussed different fundraisers and their importance. Hiles said,  “it all depends on the club or organization that the fundraiser is for. We have a lot of different opportunities here at the high school by way of clubs, extracurricular activities, things like that.”

It is important for students to work hard to raise money because “these organizations need additional funding and they do that by way of fundraisers. The fundraisers are important because it provides funds and other types of resources necessary,” Hiles said.

A common fundraiser that is seen every year is Dragon cards. PCHS athletes sell these cards at the beginning of the school year. On these cards, one can find various deals and discounts for stores and restaurants in the area.

These fundraisers have helped tremendously when it comes to the community, sports, and extracurricular activities within PCHS as a whole. They also bring Dragon fans, the community, and families together. Regardless of opinion or differences, all can come together and contribute to greater causes and better opportunities for the community while supporting PCHS.

Hiles was also asked for his opinion on how fundraisers bring people together. “Our student body and families are becoming more diverse,” Hiles said. “We find that no matter our differences or thoughts on things, with activities like blackout and pinkout, we can all come together to support organizations that are worthwhile and beneficial to other people. I think that is a strong way to bring people together—like a common good we can all rally behind.”

Overall, PCHS does a great job of fundraising for clubs, athletics, and other organizations. Watch for upcoming events and fundraisers to support your Dragons!
