The Pekin Hometown Voice

Peace Begins With Understanding and It Starts Here in Pekin

Nearly a century ago, Rotary founder Paul Harris shared a belief that still guides Rotary clubs around the world today: “The better the people of one nation understand the people of other nations, the less the likelihood of friction.” That idea—that peace grows from understanding and relationships—is not just Rotary history. It’s Rotary practice.

From supporting international scholarships and peace fellowships to helping shape the early work of the United Nations, Rotary has long believed that peace is built through service, dialogue, and shared responsibility. But while Rotary’s reach is global, its work has always started locally.

Here in Pekin, Pekin Rotary puts that philosophy into action by bringing together people from different professions, backgrounds, and perspectives—all united by a shared desire to make our community stronger. Through service projects, local grants, youth programs, and partnerships that address real needs, Pekin Rotary believes that when people work together with purpose, understanding naturally follows.

Peace doesn’t only happen on the world stage. It happens when neighbors show up, when skills are shared, and when people choose service over indifference.

If you are someone who cares about this community, believes relationships matter, and wants to use your talents to make a difference, Pekin Rotary may be a great fit for you.

We meet Wednesdays at noon at the Miller Center. Guests are always welcome. To learn more, visit PekinRotary.com or email [email protected].

Because peace doesn’t start somewhere else. It starts with people like you.
