New at the Pekin Public Library!
The Pekin Public Library is a vital community gathering space that empowers our residents by providing access to resources, programs, and events, fostering connections, and enriching our community as a whole. In recent years, many libraries have expanded their collections and services to include a broad array of new items designed to appeal to a wider audience. We want to highlight some new additions to the library that are transforming the library experience for everyone.
One of the most exciting recent developments at the library is the addition of mobile hotspots, which can be borrowed with a library card. The addition of mobile hotspots greatly enhances access to technology for our community. With increasing reliance on the internet for education, work, and connection, these portable devices enable patrons to stay connected even in areas with limited or no Wi-Fi. One example of how mobile hot spots can be incredibly useful is while traveling in a car, allowing passengers to stay connected to the internet for navigation, streaming, and sharing updates on the go. By offering mobile hotspots, the library not only expands its role as a technology hub but also helps bridge the digital divide, ensuring that everyone can access online resources. Overall, it’s a valuable service that meets our patrons’ evolving needs.
Another new addition to the library is the creation of Family Packs. Each family pack is a different theme (dinosaurs, farming, things that go, etc.). Each pack includes five children’s books on the theme, a discussion guide, a bookmark, and an activity that matches the theme. Families may keep everything except the library books. Families can now explore popular themes together, allowing for meaningful discussions and shared experiences around storytelling. This initiative not only promotes literacy but also encourages quality time among family members. Family Packs are available in the Youth Services Department.
Thanks to a generous donation from Olivia’s Playhouse, the library is thrilled to announce the addition of Tonies, interactive audio figures that foster storytelling and imagination in children. These charming figures connect to a Toniebox, allowing kids to enjoy captivating tales and songs by simply placing a Tonie on the box. This innovative feature not only makes reading more engaging for young learners but also promotes listening skills and creativity. Patrons can use their library card to check out a character and the Tonie Box, or just a character if they already have the box. Additional characters will be added to the collection! By incorporating Tonies into our collection, we continue to enhance our mission of nurturing a love for literature and fostering a vibrant community of young readers.
These latest additions to the library signal an exciting period of growth and community engagement. The library is more than just a keeper of books; it is a dynamic space that embraces new ideas and technologies while remaining rooted in its mission to serve the community. With rich collections of books, multimedia resources, and engaging programs, there has never been a better time to dive into what the Pekin Public Library has to offer.
