Rotary - A Heart for Service
“A community cannot thrive without people who are willing to serve beyond their regular daily responsibilities.”
For Anna Green, Pekin Rotary’s incoming president, service is not simply an obligation — it is a calling. What began as attending a Rotary meeting on behalf of the YWCA of Pekin soon became a deeply personal commitment to leadership, literacy, and lasting community impact. Welcomed by a group of passionate local leaders, she quickly discovered that Pekin Rotary was more than a civic organization; it was a place where compassion, collaboration, and purpose come together to strengthen the community.
As she prepares to lead the club, her vision is rooted in Rotary’s annual theme, “Creating Lasting Impact.” Inspired by Rotary leadership and fellow community servants, she hopes to encourage not only club members but all residents to recognize their own ability to serve, grow, and make a difference. Her experiences through Rotary — from serving at the Pekin Outreach Center to supporting literacy initiatives — have reinforced her belief that thriving communities are built when people choose to give beyond themselves.
Her professional role as YWCA of Pekin’s Director of Literacy aligns naturally with Rotary’s global mission, allowing her to champion literacy both locally and internationally. She also holds Rotary’s fight to eradicate polio close to her heart, honoring a family member whose life was shaped by the disease. For her, Rotary service is deeply personal, connecting purpose with action.
Pekin Rotary continues to make a meaningful difference through scholarships, student recognition, local grants, literacy support, and projects funded by traditions like the Marigold Festival Rotary Grill. Under her leadership, that legacy will continue with renewed energy and an open invitation for others to get involved.
Her advice to anyone considering joining is refreshingly simple: “Don’t think—just do it.” Rotary, she believes, has a way of bringing out the best in people.
“The people are amazing, and you will always feel better sending positive energy out into the world.”
