Two Bands, One Mission: Bringing Joy Through Music

For nearly six decades, the Peoria Area Senior Citizens Band has been bringing the joy of live music to audiences across Central Illinois. Now in its 58th season, the volunteer ensemble features 35 to 40 retired musicians representing approximately 19 communities throughout the region. Their performance schedule includes more than 20 appearances each season, primarily at senior living and retirement communities, where familiar melodies often spark memories, smiles, and even dancing.

The band’s repertoire covers a wide range of styles including marches, patriotic favorites, Broadway tunes, ballads, and classical selections. Remarkably, the group holds only two rehearsals each season, yet continues to deliver polished performances year after year. Their oldest member is more than 92 years young, proving that music truly has no age limit.

The River Valley Big Band, is known for its “Big Band – Big Sound – Big Impact” style. The group performs music spanning from the swing era of the 1920s through today, featuring the classic sounds of the Big Band era alongside newer favorites. Each band brings energy, nostalgia, and entertainment to audiences throughout Central Illinois each summer.

The Peoria Area Senior Citizens Band on June 10th and the River Valley Big Band on June 12, July 10 and August 14th will perform at the Skinner Performing Arts Venue in Mineral Springs Park in Pekin, along with many other appearances throughout the summer season.
