Exciting Summer Activities Await at the Pekin Public Library!
As summer approaches, the Pekin Public Library is gearing up to provide an array of engaging activities and programs designed for all ages. Whether you’re a bookworm, a craft enthusiast, or someone looking to learn something new, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the library this summer!
One of the highlights of the summer is the annual Summer Reading Adventure, which encourages readers of all ages to keep reading during the summer. Participants can pick up their game card and track their reading progress, earn prizes, and enjoy special events throughout the season. This program is not only a fantastic way for children to maintain their reading skills over the break, but it also fosters a love for literature in readers of all ages.
Families can enjoy many free activities at the library this summer. Following the theme of “Unearth a Book,” we have several dinosaur-themed events such as Dinosaur Terrariums on June 3; Dinosaur Ranger Academy on June 11; and Adopt-a-Dinosaur on June 12. But there is so much more, such as a Big Bubble Blast on June 3 and exotic animals from Wild Time Exotics on June 25. And that’s just a snippet of the activities for June!
For younger children, the library will offer a variety of storytimes each week. Sign and Sing Storytime, presented by Communication Junction, will take place on Mondays, June 8 and 22, at 10:30am. Listen and Wiggle Storytime meets every Wednesday at 10am, and Baby Bounce meets on Thursday mornings at the same time. Any books read during storytime can be used for the child’s summer reading game card! Through engaging tales and activities, little ones will enjoy the joys of storytelling while developing their listening and comprehension skills.
Teens and adults are not left out this summer! Teens can enjoy video game nights, a Summerween Party on June 25; and Dino Nugget Keychains. We’re also hosting a free dance class where you will learn to waltz with Young Dance Inc.; watercolor painting, and our Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) history series continues!
As summer approaches, don’t forget to mark your calendars! Come experience all that the Pekin Public Library has to offer this summer, and make unforgettable memories filled with books, creativity, and community.
