PEKIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISTRICT 108

Jul 27, 2026 12:43PM ● By Leonard Ealey, Superintendent
The excitement of a new school year is beginning to build as Pekin Public School District 108 prepares to welcome students back for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.  On Wednesday, August 19, classrooms across the district will once again come alive with the energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm that accompany a fresh beginning.

Throughout the summer, District 108 employees have been busy preparing schools to ensure students and families experience a successful start to the year.  Custodial and maintenance teams have cleaned classrooms, completed repairs, and worked on facility improvements.  Teachers have spent time organizing classrooms, reviewing curriculum, and planning engaging lessons designed to inspire learning from the very first day.  Office staff have assisted families with registration, transportation personnel have finalized bus routes, and administrators have coordinated the many details necessary for a smooth opening of school.

Before classes begin, schools throughout the district will host Meet the Teacher events on Tuesday, August 18.  These events provide students and families with an opportunity to meet teachers, tour classrooms, locate lockers, ask questions, and reconnect with friends before the first day of school.  Families are encouraged to register as soon as possible to help ensure a seamless start to the school year.

District 108 begins the new school year under the theme “On the Road to Excellence.”  The theme reflects the district’s belief that excellence is not a single achievement but an ongoing journey of continuous improvement.  Every lesson taught, every skill mastered, every challenge overcome, and every relationship built represents another step forward for students and staff alike.

That philosophy aligns closely with the district’s commitment to preparing students academically, socially, and emotionally for success both inside and outside the classroom.  District 108 strives to educate the whole child by providing learning environments where every student feels safe, valued, supported, and challenged to reach his or her fullest potential.  Staff members work each day to create schools where students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, solve problems, and develop the confidence needed to become lifelong learners.

From preschool through eighth grade, students have access to a wide variety of educational opportunities that extend beyond core academic instruction.  In addition to strong programs in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, students participate in music, art, physical education, technology, athletics, clubs, and other enrichment activities that foster creativity, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.  These experiences help students discover new interests while developing skills that will benefit them well beyond their elementary and junior high years.

District leaders also continue to invest in creating learning environments that support student achievement.  Ongoing improvements to school facilities, enhanced security measures, updated instructional technology, and infrastructure projects are part of the district’s long-range commitment to providing safe, modern, and welcoming schools for students, staff, and families.

A successful school system depends on strong partnerships, and District 108 continues to benefit from the unwavering support of the Pekin community.  Parents, grandparents, volunteers, local businesses, civic organizations, and community partners all play an important role in helping students succeed.  Whether volunteering in classrooms, supporting extracurricular activities, mentoring students, or participating in school events, the community’s involvement strengthens educational opportunities throughout the district.

As the first day of school approaches, District 108 looks forward to welcoming both returning and new students to its classrooms.  With dedicated educators, supportive families, and an engaged community working together, the district is well positioned for another outstanding year of learning and achievement.

The beginning of a school year represents more than the opening of classroom doors. It marks the start of new friendships, new discoveries, and new opportunities for every student to grow. As District 108 embarks on another journey On the Road to Excellence, the focus remains steadfast: providing every student with the knowledge, character, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in school and throughout life.
